Series: 1 (2 coming 2020)
I recently watched this kdrama called Love Alarm on Netflix and I found it dramatically underwhelming but luckily the actors had me interested in their sagas within this world they live in. Especially Guk.
The Plot
Love Alarm is a romance korean drama about a teenage girl who has to live with her spiteful aunt and her Queen Bee wannabe cousin due to her grandmother being ill. Despite this she is perceived at school as the outcast but liked by a few peers like Guk, a young boy who has a one sided love with her cousin who despises him. But no one knows his secret: He created an App for people like him looking for love and matching up with the person they are in love with but there is a catch, they have to be in love with the phone holder as well.
What does this have to do with the protagonist?
He gives her a new phone as her original did not have the specifications for the App (much to the annoyance to her aunt and cousin) and thus she installs it. Then the new boy in school who is a celebrity pinged on her phone as a deceleration of love. The problem? His Best friend has already fallen in love with her already before he came back from the states.
How the App works?
When someone opens the App a ring in 100 meter radius encircles the person or persons and then it shows how many people love you. The benefits of having many people love you is that access to exclusive clubs and bars etc. (but this is only after the Guk and the others graduate.)
The Characters
I found the cousin annoying. This is mostly as she continuously thinks and believes she is better then her own family and is trying to become an influential person but to no avail luckily her mother puts her straight (a bit to late in my opinion but Kay sir rah sir rah)
I don’t think the model guy is worthy of the leads intentions mostly as he is a Robert Pattinson wannabe. And his best friend is more realistic and honorable then him. But alas I am not the phone holder.
I do hope that Guk is living and gives the cousin what for when he reveals himself to her. I hope she gets the kick in her pants. (I can just see it. He reveals himself. in a non sexual way. She says oh that’s great let’s date! And then you can shower me with gifts! Him: girl please! You had your chance! Bye!)
I hope he has a twin who is doing the anti stuff because then it would be rather upsetting and partly understandable. He created something to get closer to his love but it backfired so he becomes reclusive and a regrettable person. i think that what he is thinking. But i still hope he ha a twin. mostly because he needs a win.
The leads aunt was completely in the wrong by making her the bad guy in the house. And it also annoys me that her daughter had her on a string the whole time. I think her husband left because he had enough of her drinking and putting the cousin to work to early. let alone their most likely loveless marriage. or he was annoyed that she gave in to her daughter all the time.
My Over All Opinion:
My over all Opinion is as stated above : I found it dramatically underwhelming but luckily the actors had me interested in their sagas. The support for the female lead is welcoming but she could of explained to her teacher of what happened to her parents before she had a PTSD episode.
Well that’s my views. Hope you all are having a pleasant day/night.
